In order to understand employer and employee responsibility in the reasonable adjustment process, knowledge of the existing legislation relating to disability in the workplace is required.
The Equality Act was introduced on 1st October 2010 and is applicable to all employers and employees. The Equality Act brings together over 116 separate pieces of legislation into one single Act. Combined, they make up a new Act that provides a legal framework to protect the rights of individuals and advance equality of opportunity for all.
The Act simplifies and strengthens previous legislation to updated discrimination law which protects individuals from unfair treatment and promotes a fair and more equal society.
